Sigurgeir’s Bird Museum was opened with a solemn ceremony on 17 August 2008
The museum has about 330 stuffed birds and about 500 eggs. The gallery has 280 birds and 300 eggs on display. The museum has all Icelandic breeding birds except 2. Þórshana we have not been able to get but the Icelandic Institute of Natural History lent the museum Haförn. The museum is very pleasantly set up and elaborate for all aspects. On information cards are the names in several languages, the distribution of the birds both summer and winter and then there is a button that can be pressed and then a light comes to the bird. This can be an ideal game for school, family or other groups to compete for who knows the most birds.
