Mývatn and Laxá are known for their rich and varied bird life, especially there are many ducks and other waterfowl. 14 species of ducks nest there, which is unique in the Northern Hemisphere. The density is high and the species composition is unique.

You can watch birds by the lake all year round. In winter, there are large watches where swans, housewives, yellows and shrews stay. The migratory birds will arrive in April. The most enjoyable time by the lake is May and June, but there is a lot to do all summer.
